Got Butterbeans this Weekend?
While I have already made plans for this weekend, I thought it both interesting and intriguing that a local community would stage a festival on Labor Day Weekend. But this isn’t any normal festival, it’s the BUTTERBEAN FESTIVAL located in the small suburban Birmingham community of Palmerdale (within the city limits of Pinson). Information can be found at www.butterbeanfestival.com no less. I came across the festival while looking for information about today’s election on al.com – one of the cutest “tombstone” ads I’ve seen in a long while.
The website talks about the Butterbean Festival…
The Alabama Butterbean Festival was born as an effort to unite the senior citizen population of Palmerdale with the present and younger generations throughout the area. It also aides as an effort for funding the renovations. The theme for the festival came from the original roots of the community, a laid back, friendly butterbean eating neighborhood. Many memories spawn from the thought of eating butterbeans and cornbread while visiting with neighbors on the front porch.
After visiting Pepper Place Farmers Market this Saturday morning, make the short trip up to partake of the music performances, children’s parade, fun run, motorcycke ride, dog pageant, clown circus, magic show, and other festivities. Tell me how it was!
