Expanding upon our Convention Complex

12 March 2007

No matter how you feel about the potential likely expansion of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, you will have your chance to hear directly from the horse’s mouth (so to speak) next week… AND get a FREE breakfast out of the deal to boot!

The monthly ONB Breakfast Briefing will feature the BJCC Executive Director. If you’re in town during the kids’ spring break this year, consider attending it. Don’t forget to RSVP so they know how much food to prepare.

THURSDAY March 22, 2007
7:30am At THE HARBERT CENTER, 2019 4th Avenue North

Sponsored by the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel

TOPIC: EXPANDING THE BJCC

The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Board of Directors has selected Performa Management Group to develop an entertainment district adjacent to the BJCC. This group also developed the Beale Street Historic Entertainment District in Memphis, TN. Plans call for 100,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space including restaurants and performance venues, 100 residential apartments and a 140-150 room hotel. Also under discussion is a 40,000 seat, multi-use arena, which would provide much needed extra capacity to host major sporting events and large conventions.

Join us for the March ONB Breakfast Briefing as BJCC Executive Director Jack Fields provides details on this exciting venture.

We’ll also be drawing for a chance to win a piece of loaned artwork from one of the noted artists scheduled to participate in the ONB Magic City Art Connection.

Man, I really wish I didn’t have a job sometimes. I wanted to go to Montgomery tommorrow to watch people protest pay raises (I don’t personally feel that strongly about legislative pay, but I do feel strongly about people who protest) and I’d like to go to this event at the Harbert Center (I don’t care strongly about the BJCC expansion but I do feel strongly about free breakfast).
