Ride to Live… Live Strong in Birmingham

26 February 2007

I can barely control my excitement! I just got an email blast from the good folks at the Barber Motorsports Park. In October ’05, I had the chance to walk on the track amongst thousands of other Birmingham citizens in the Race for the Cure. Now, we all have the chance to ride our road bikes on the track!! Along comes the Ride to Live Fun Ride & Road Race.

Adults and teenagers may freely ride on the 2.38 mile, 45′ wide track from 8am to Noon. Kids under 13 are only allowed to ride in the paddock area. Constant elevation changes are the rule (80′ top to bottom), so bring those hill-ready legs along with you.

Wanna race?? For $35, you can… but, be sure to register in advance!! Races start on the track and head out on the open road starting at 12:30pm (for those of us over 40). The top riders don’t start until 3:30pm. Over $1000 in prize money will be distributed.

The Ride to Live will benefit the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. A full day of bicycle riding and racing, rain or shine.
