Why not “Villages of Birmingham” ???

29 June 2005

Hey! Mountain Brook has got the village theme for their centers of commerce:

  • Mountain Brook Village
  • English Village
  • Crestline Village
  • Cahaba Village is under development in the former “dirt pile” along 280

The City of Birmingham has a “mainstreet” program, Main Street Birmingham, Inc., working to reinstate nine locations across the city to their former glory as centers of commerce outside of downtown. Why not brand these locations as the “Villages of Birmingham” to correspond with the City’s 99 “neighborhoods”?? Imagine the following…

  • Ensley Village
  • Woodlawn Village
  • The Villages of East Lake and Roebuck
  • Spring Street Village
  • Old Avondale Village
  • The Villages of West End

How ’bout it? Wouldn’t that tell the world what these locations really are?? They’re commercial districts that cater to the local residents and destinations for the rest of the region. Why not capitalize on the branding of this concept?!?

just for the record, I live in Vestavia Hills near the Rocky Ridge “Business District” and would love to see the area branded a Village as well.
