The Carver Theater venue needs to be in the show, and the recent move by the Aldridge Repertory company to the Carver would make a good story. The Aldridge has been playing for a long time in one place or another around town, and exemplifies the city's bent for theater. Their current show, "No Child....," is a knockout. http://www.aldridgerep.org/

The art museum and School of Fine Arts would be good additions. I came to B’ham from Atlanta and am still amazed at the quality of that museum. Tie the museum café into the culinary scene if you want.

I wouldn’t be so concerned with burying the city’s civil rights history. It’s responsible for many of the city’s strengths and its unique character, and should not be treated as just a source of shame. My two cents.

Curtis - Great launching point for a really cool discussion. And I like commenter Deon's idea for Birmingham for Bourdain. Anything with Stitt, hot dogs and orange rolls gets my vote.

Gotta love that Bourdain. Huge fan of his work, right here. Credit to the man for finding those things that make food unique and special -- oftentimes, the people and the place. Birmingham, with it's rich cultural and culinary history would seem to be an IDEAL candidate for a No Reservations visit.

Great list, by the way. As for any additions, I suppose no visit would be complete w/o a stop to some barbecue hut -- despite how ubiquitous (or cliche) they may appear. I'd also toss a few more watering holes into that list (Bourdain loves his fermented wonders). Perhaps the Blue Monkey or the Garage would be good additions.

Hmm, this may be the start of a Birmingham for Bourdain campaign.

Janet,

I believ we were in the same class at Shades Mountain Elementary School. If I remember correectly at that time you did live there. To my memory a fellow student named Molly Pike owned the lodge. I have some recollections of going there after it was abandoned and ready for distruction because of the interstate. At one time I had the old hotel register and a couple of light fixtures from the outside. My grandparents told me, and my parents too, that the lodge was a get away from the bad air in Bham. It was a cool (tempperature wise) spot with a nice breeze. Made of rock and stone and a nice rock wall around it. I also remember reading or being told that during the depression and prohibition it ws a popular spot for some illegal booze and gambling. I only have pictures of it in my mind.

As Rush asks on a daily basis, "How's that Hope and Change going for ya?"

So Eddie provides another comment that equates us to being racists, only because we hope that Obama's socialist policies fail.

No one here is beating his chest with pride; on the contrary, we're beating our heads against the wall because we don't understand how Obama followers can be a bunch of lemmings following him into the abyss.

Forget political parties. Go back to reading THE constitution. Not the Republican constitution..THE US constitution. Then tell us WHERE it says that the Federal government can grant the right to FREE healthcare, or AFFORDABLE housing or Abortion. Show me and I'll shut up.

But you can't, and that's why we continue to beat the drum. To wake you idiotic, rock star groupies up from your entitlement-induced comas

If you can remember any of your high school history, our country was founded SPECIFICALLY to fight the kind of oppression we are seeing here.

The top 20% of earners in this country pay 86% of all income taxes.

But wait, it gets worse. The bottom 40% PAY NO TAXES!

Sorry, I don't support Representation without Taxation. When you pay your taxes, you're allowed to vote. Period

BTW I'm the one guilty of wearing the Ronaldus Maximus shirt. Seeing that the One's approval ratings have dropped a few more points this month, I'm feeling more confident every day about wearing the shirt.

Hey there, this sounds like a really great event. I love that LEED is catching on within the community. One question, though: Do you all have a Prometric testing center in the area? I believe that is where the LEED Exams are given. Thanks! Good luck with the event!

The "HOPE" that racism will die is also fading. The type of people that take pictures of this fading poster and beat their chest with pride and "HOPE" that this President fails. The very image of this man defaced or crumbling seems to excite your like. That's a shame
