Alberto “Butch” Zaragoza of Vestavia Hills will have to get used to a new title much sooner than he had planned.  The Birmingham News has just announced that our former Fire Chief is the de facto winner of the election to become our new Mayor, courtesy of his only competitor’s dropping out of the race.

The News reported two days ago that he had raised $12,743 so far.  Signs began appearing in strategic locations around Vestavia Hills.  Looks like further fund-raising isn’t necessary.

I ordered this bumper sticker at www.MayorZ.com to show my support for his candidacy.  It hasn’t yet arrived and therefore is not on my car yet, but at least I’ll be able to keep THIS one on my car (as opposed to this one) for the foreseeable future.

The “election” will be certified as next Monday’s City Council.
