It’s Good to Live in Alabama
I’m writing this from a hotel room in Orlando, FL. No, I’ve not seen Mickey this trip… it’s all been about business and forging new business partnerships. Ignoring the fact that it’s much colder in Birmingham than here (oh, by about 20F), I just read an interesting online report from the Birmingham Business Journal about the recession vs. inflation debate. From where I sit having spent several days now at the HIMSS’08 show, you’d never know the media was preaching doom and gloom. The Healthcare IT show is busting at the seams, gets bigger every year, and vendors still throw great parties (er, networking events). That said, I’m ready to head home and will be checking out of this hotel in the morning and jumping on a non-stop Delta flight home first thing in the afternoon. I’m so ready.
Anyhowz…. the article is worth a read. It ends with the following two lines:
Overall, Alabama’s economy will fare better than the U.S. economy while one of its Southern counterparts, Florida, will be “worse off” since its economy is heavily exposed to the housing crisis.
“It’s a very mixed bag,” he said. “It depends on where you live.”
Amen to that!
